First UMC hosts an annual "Opening Our Doors" conference, which seeks to address hospitality issues with and full inclusion of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered persons. This social justice issue has resulted in the formation of a ministry in which FUMC will declare itself to be a Reconciling Congregation. By making such a statement, we challenge ourselves to consider how it is persons who are "other than" heterosexual have all too often been marginalized in communities of faith.
