Statement of Reconciliation

Hamline's vote as a reconciling congregation was taken on May 16, 1999:

"As a Reconciling Congregation, we strive to bring Christ's love and grace to all, including persons and their families who experience hatred and unjust treatment."

Hamline Church is deeply rooted in the Weslyan tradition. The United Methodist Church affirms spiritual diversity and individual integrity. Our beliefs are not dictated by doctrinal statements or confessions, but shaped and guided by rigorous prayerful reflection on scripture, tradition, reason, and experience.

Hamline Church has a strong sense of personal and spiritual value. Our values as a church are to be:

• A faithful congregation - we live out our faith in Jesus, our confidence in God, and openness to God's Spirit
• A relational congregation - building deep, caring, mutually fulfilling relationships with people, with God and with Jesus is fundamental to everything we believe in
• An inclusive congregation - we strive to extend Christ's love to people of all ages, backgrounds, cultures, national origins, conditions and situations, and orientations
• A nurturing congregation - we strive to nourish growth in people by extending sensitive care and compassion for all people
• A serving congregation - we share Christ's love with all people through works of charity, mercy, compassion, and justice
• A growing congregation - we strive to grow not only statistically, in terms of growing numbers of members and worshippers, but spiritually too
