MedCity REFUGE – A Helping Hand in Rochester

2025 is NOT a good year to be a trans person!  Persons, especially young people, who are seeking gender affirming care are finding it more and more difficult to obtain it.  Even hospitals and clinics in “blue” states are discontinuing this care.  Fortunately, gender affirming care is still available in Minnesota and people are moving or traveling here to receive it.

Please join MN Reconciling Congregations to learn about a remarkable nonprofit, MedCity REFUGE (https://medcityrefuge.org/), which serves people seeking gender affirming care in Rochester.  This unique opportunity takes place on Saturday, November 1 at 1 p.m. You can attend in-person at Christ UMC in Rochester or virtually.

Rev. Ana Wilson, visionary/founder of MedCIty REFUGE, will discuss their work.  MedCity REFUGE aims to:

• support individuals who face significant obstacles in seeking gender-affirming care

• provide resources, community fellowship, and affordable lodging

• nurture the emotional and physical well-being of those on their medical journey.

Pastor Ana will be joined by Judy Jerde, a retired RN who will provide background on the transition process. Come learn about the resources and support MedCity REFUGE provides and what we can do in our communities to either support Med City Refuge or provide similar supports to individuals coming to our communities.

• Christ United Methodist Church is located at 5th Ave SW, Rochester, MN 55902.  The learning event will begin at 1 p.m. and is planned for 1 1/2 hours.

• If you can’t attend in person, the will be livestreamed on the Christ UMC YouTube channel.  Join here. The event will also be recorded and posted on the MRC website.

• Make plans to attend in person, if possible – it’s easy to drive to Rochester!

• Don’t delay, begin to publicize this learning event in your congregation!  If you’re not within driving distance, consider holding a viewing event at your church.  A flyer and sample announcement are included in this email.
