Come to the Minnesota State Fair and Serve at the Hamline Church Dining Hall

MN Reconciling Congregations is partnering with the Hamline Church Dining Hall to offer a new opportunity for Reconciling United Methodists to serve fair-goers and share our message of inclusion.  Hamline Church UM has been a Reconciling Congregation for many years.  This year, we will help them amplify their message of welcome by providing staff for the Dining Hall on Saturday, August 26.

When you volunteer to work in the Dining Hall, you will receive free admission to the State Fair and a meal during your shift.  Because running the Dining Hall is a complex process, first time volunteers are asked to sign up for one of the following positions which have been specifically set aside for MRC volunteers:

  • Dining Room Attendant – bus tables, serve coffee & water, stock condiment trays & napkin holders and assist customers.  Must be at least 12 years old.

  • Barker – stands outside, encourages people to come in.

  • Dishroom Window – scrapes plates & trays into garbage/recycling/composting containers.

  • Outside Window Sales Assistant – fills customer’s take-out orders, including scooping ice cream.  Must be at least 16 years old.

  • To sign up, go to https://ttsu.me/v7zrhw

Other information:

  • Tickets –  pick-up at Hamline Church, 1514 Englewood Ave, St. Paul between 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. M-Th or get it from the shuttle bus driver on Saturday. If neither of these options work, please email MN Reconciling Congregations at minnesotareconciling@gmail.com prior to August 21.

  • Getting to the Fair – Church members will be running shuttles between Hamline Church and the State Fair entrance. Dining Hall volunteers may park in the church parking lot and pick up your admission ticket at this time, if you have not already done so. Those who pick up their admission ticket ahead of time may utilize the other State Fair transportation options including park and ride

  • What to wear – Closed toed shoes must be worn by all Dining Hall volunteers. MRC will provide aprons, name tags, and rainbow peace medallions. Head covering (bandana or baseball cap) is required for all positions except barker and dish room. Caps will be available at the Dining Hall.

If you’re not able to help volunteer in the Dining Hall, be sure to stop in for some great food when you’re at the Fair!
